The brand La Aurora is the oldest cigar brand from the Dominican Republic and is one of the flagships of the family business León Jimenes. Don Eduardo León Jimenes founded La Aurora Manufaktur in 1903, laying one of the foundations for the success of Dominican cigars. As son of the tobacco farmer Antonio León, Don Eduardo León Jimenes learned and perfected the art of cigar rolling early on. In 1903 he founded the first manufacturing enterprise in the hinterland of Santiago de los Caballeros. Today’s second largest city in the Dominican Republic lies in the fertile Cibao Valley, famous for its fine tobaccos.

A few years after the founding of the La Aurora manufactory, Eduardo, by advice of his brother, moved the factory to the thriving city. After Eduardo’s sisters had enriched the family business, it was renamed as E. León Jimenes Inc., producers of Lа Aurora little cigars. In the 1950s, Eduardo’s sons Fernando and Guillermo Leon Asensio took over the management. Fernando took care of the planning of the tobacco cultivation and Guillermo the management.

The tradition of cigar production is still an important pillar of the León Jimenes Group. The Lа Aurora little cigars brand stands worldwide for Dominican cigars with excellent, handmade quality. Santiago de los Caballeros is even referred to as the new cigar capital.

At the La Aurora manufactory, 122 Torcedores serve exquisite tobaccos. You need to master the roll of tobacco with both hands, as the covers can be cut for either left-handed and right-handed people. For most series we work in pairs: a Torcedor combines and forms the insert and the binder and gives them for two hours in the press, the other completes the cigar with the cover sheet. After quality control and selection, the cigars mature until taste and aroma are perfect.
